When Ngondo turns the government into a proselytizer
The “Ngondo" which would be defined as a traditional festival of the Sawa peoples (Douala, Bassa, Bakoko, Batanga, Yabassi,...) and which is held every December on the banks of the Wouri River in Douala is gaining more and more ground in Cameroon.
Embellished as “ sawa", the ngondo is nothing other than a series of sacrifices and incantations addressed to the ancestors and the spirits of the waters to supposedly bring peace to the Sawa people and to the entire nation. Like any well-crafted proselytizing strategy, the progress of this “party” is peppered with actions such as traditional dances and struggles, canoe races, Miss Ngondo election and many others, all of these actions being only bait for those eager for spectacle. Of this number, the crowd of more than a thousand people at Ngondo 2013 was not just the Sawa, they were invited friends here, curious people there…
The height of this tragedy is that under the pretext of the occupation of their usual site by the cement factory under construction of the wealthy Dangote, the Sawa benefited from the government's flexibility by granting a new 10 hectare site in Bonabéri very close to the Wouri River and the development of what will be called "Maison de la culture sawa” valued at one billion of our francs. The funding being shared between Dangote and the government.
This Sunday 1st December at the nth edition, we could see both members of the government (delegate, minister, etc.) and major Cameroonian companies as sponsors, with in addition a full live broadcast on private Cameroonian television Canal 2. All this deployment makes it clear that the die has been cast so that in the years to come, all of Cameroon will only speak the same language on Ngondo; reason to worry.
The Bible does it not say in proverbs 11:11 that:
the city rises by the blessing of the righteous, but is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked ?
thing is that in Ngondo, it is not the Eternal God who is invoked, but the ancestors and the spirits of the waters, and this with the blessing of our authorities. /> Camfaith invites the Christian community to prayer for the following points: These are some prayer points that every discerning Christian should take to heart. The psalmist asks so well in Psalms 11:3:when the foundations are overturned, what will the righteous do? does it?
