           INTRODUCTION

Jesus Christ has given us complete victory over the devil and his demonic forces. It was his work. Our role is to keep this victory, and to live as victorious Christians. The purpose of this teaching is to help us do this.

We have seen the importance of knowing who we are in Jesus Christ. When we received the Lord Jesus into our hearts, we were born into the wonderful family of God. Our names have been written in the royal records of heaven.

This is why we have divine authority that we can exercise to control our enemy (the devil and his demons) here on earth. This is an exciting and important truth that we need to know in greater detail.

        A DIVINE AUTHORITY

You remember the story found in the tenth chapter of Luke, concerning the seventy disciples whom Jesus sent out to preach the good news of the kingdom. They were filled with joy when they returned. They reported how even demons had to obey them when they spoke in the name of Jesus.

The Lord responded to their report with the following words which, although not common, remain important: “However, do not rejoice that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven” (Luke 10:20).

1.     Relationship grants authority

The source of their authority was not the mere fact that they spoke the name of Jesus, but it was because of their relationship with him (as their Lord).

We cannot put our faith in an oral magic formula. It takes more than witty words to confront and fight the devil; you need a good relationship with Almighty God.

When we confess Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we receive the authority that belongs to the children of God. This relationship or communion with the throne of grace through Jesus Christ is the source of our authority over the enemy.

The king’s son has a lot of influence and authority  in his father’s kingdom. When the king sends him as a representative, their relationship gives much authority to the son's words.  For what ? It’s not because he says “I come in the name of the king”. His authority is the result of his family relationship (the heir apparent to the throne) not just the words he speaks. We can only speak in the name of the King if we are in perfect relationship with him.

Likewise, our words spoken against the devil or his demons have power only if we have a good relationship with Jesus who triumphed over all the powers of death and hell. Even demons know if you have a good relationship with Jesus.

There is a dramatic story in the Book of Acts that confirms and supports this idea. The apostle Paul had great success in delivering those possessed by demonic spirits.

A Jew named Sceva had seven sons. They decided to try Paul's method of casting out demons, and they said, “I command you to go out in the name of Jesus that Paul preaches! ” The demonic spirit replied: “I know Jesus and I know Paul, but you; who are you ? » The demons were angry because of this false claim to the name of Jesus because these boys had no relationship with Jesus.

The demons then granted great strength to the man they possessed. He attacked all seven sons; He seriously injured them and they came out of the house naked and bleeding (Acts 19:13-16).

They used good words but they did not have a good relationship or fellowship with God.

Let us allow these truths to settle in our hearts and minds.  We can be victorious all the time with them. They are a powerful and certain defense against the attacks of the devil and his demons.

Beloved in the Lord, victory is ours today and for eternity, let us always keep and maintain our relationship with the kingdom of heaven.

Thank you
